Description
PROVIDE RESIDENTIAL AND DAY SCHOOL PROGRAMS WITH INDIVIDUAL AND SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION NINE MONTHS OF THE YEAR FOR MILD AND MODERATELY HANDICAPPED CHILDREN. THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM INCLUDES ALL THE CURRICULUM AREAS PLUS SURVIVAL, INDEPENDENT LIVING AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS AND SPEECH THERAPY. FREQUENT FIELD TRIPS AND REGULAR EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ARE ALSO PROVIDED. MOST SCHOOL SYSTEMS WILL PAY FOR EDUCATION; PARENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR ROOM AND BOARD (SOME FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE). SUMMER CAMP AVAILABLE FOR ONE WEEK; DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND SCHOOL TO PARTICIPATE.

Eligibility: THE STUDENTS MAY RANGE IN AGE FROM 7-18 YEARS BUT NO NEW STUDENTS ACCEPTED AFTER THEIR 16TH BIRTHDAY. AN INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO PLACEMENT. CHILDREN WITH MULTIPLE HANDICAPS ARE ACCEPTED IF THE SECONDARY HANDICAP DOES NOT REQUIRE HIGHLY SPECIALIZED CARE. ORDINARILY, THOSE STUDENTS ADMITTED ARE WITH THE IQ RANGES OF MILD AND MODERATELY HANDICAPPED CHIDLREN, APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 70.
