THE MISSION IS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF SUPPORT AND CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH ALS, THEIR CAREGIVERS, AND THEIR FAMILIES. EVERY SERVICE IS AVAILABLE TO EACH FAMILY AND ALL SERVICES ARE FREE OF CHARGE. 1) EDUCATION, GUIDANCE, AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES - VARIETY OF ALS SPECIFIC INFORMATION AVAILABLE, AS WELL AS REFERRALS TO NUMEROUS COMMUNITY RESOURCES. READING MATERIALS, VIDEOS, HELPFUL WEBSITES. 2) INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPPORT - EVERY INDIVIDUAL IS CONNECTED WITH AN AGENCY SOCIAL WORKER WHO PROVIDES EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, ADVOCATES ON YOUR BEHALF, CONNECTS YOU WITH RESOURCES, AND ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS. 3) RESPITE GRANT PROGRAM - CAN APPLY FOR THIS PROGRAM WHICH IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE PATIENT WHILE THE CAREGIVER ADDRESSES PERSONAL NEEDS AND DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES. 4) EQUIPMENT LOAN PROGRAM - LOANS OR PURCHASES VARIOUS EQUIPMENT AT NO CHARGE, SUCH AS MOBILITY ITEMS, COMMUNICATION DEVICES, SHOWER/TUB CHAIRS, AND DAILY LIVING AIDS. CONTACT MAGGIE MOREHOUSE, EQUIPMENT COORDINATOR, AT 402.592.2374 EXT 204 OR MAGGIE@ALSINTHEHEARTLAND.ORG. 5) CHILDREN'S FUNDS - AVAILABLE FOR AGES 18 AND YOUNGER THAT ASSIST THE FAMILY IN PROMOTING NORMAL, DESIRED ACTIVITIES FOR THE KIDS BY RELIEVING SOME OR ALL OF THE FINANCIAL BURDEN. 6) ALTERNATIVE SERVICES - UNIQUE TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL. WHETHER THAT IS THROUGH FINANCIAL REQUESTS, LEGACY WORK, TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, OR SOMETHING ELSE. 7) REFERRALS TO EXPERIENCED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS - CAN ASSIST INDIVIDUALS IN ACCESSING APPROPRIATE AND NEEDED MEDICAL SERVICES THROUGH THE AGENCIES POSITIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITY. FORTUNATE TO ACT AS THE SOCIAL WORKERS ON A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM IN DR. GARY PATTEE'S MDA CARE CENTER FOR ALS PATIENTS. 8) VOLUNTEERS - WILLING TO HELP PATIENT FAMILIES WITH EVERYTHING FROM YARD WORK TO BUILDING A RAMP, COMPANIONSHIP, RESPITE, AND ASSISTANCE WITH HOUSEHOLD ERRANDS OR CHORES. 9) ADVOCACY AND RESEARCH - INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND PROMOTES RESEARCH. 10) ALS HOME MODIFICATION PROGRAM - CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF OMAHA. PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL BARRIER REMOVAL ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATIONS FOR HOMEOWNER OR RENTAL HOUSEHOLDS FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE CITY OF OMAHA AND MEET LOW TO MODERATE INCOME GUIDELINES. MODIFICATIONS UP TO $5000 ARE COVERED. EXAMPLES INCLUDE RAMPS, LIFTS, DOOR HARDWARE, HINGES, WIDENING, POWER OPENERS, HANDRAILS, STAIR GLIDES, TALLER TOILETS, GRAB BARS AND HAND HELD SHOWERS.
