PROVIDES A 24-HOUR FAMILY ATMOSPHERE TEACHING AND ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENT LIVING FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT MALES AND FEMALES WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES MAY ALSO SUFFER FROM HYPERACTIVITY, FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME, DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS, SYMPTOMS OF PHYSICAL/SEXUAL ABUSE AND/OR DISORDERLY/AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIORS AND RESIDE IN NEBRASKA AND WOULD BENEFIT FROM A RESIDENTIAL TEACHING PROGRAM. LIVE-IN COUPLES UTILIZE THE NATIONAL KNOWN TEACHING FAMILY MODEL TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND REHABILITATION. RESIDENTIAL ADULT SERVICES NOW AVAILABLE

Eligibility: 1. BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10 AND 21 AND SOME ADULTS. 2. YOUTHS MUST HAVE MILD OR MODERATE MENTAL RETARDATION, IQ BETWEEN 40 AND 80 AND ASSOCIATED DELAYS IN ADAPTIVE SKILLS 3. YOUTH MUST BE ABLE TO BENEFIT FROM YOUTH CARE 4. THE YOUTH MUST BE INVOLVED IN A FULL LENGTH DAY PROGRAM 5. THE YOUTH MUST BE AMBULATORY 6. THE YOUTH MUST BE TOILET TRAINED 7. YOUTH WITH SEVERE BEHAVIOR/MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED 8. YOUTH WITH AN UNSTABLE MEDICAL CONDITION WILL NOT BE ADMITTED 9. YOUTH MUST BE RELATIVELY COMPARABLE IN TERMS OF AGE WITH OTHER CLIENTS IN THE HOME. 10. YOUTH MUST BE JUDGED AS HAVING A REASONABLE CHANCE TO DEVELOP AND RETAIN SKILLS 11. YOUTH WILL BE ADMITTED IN AN ORDER WHICH ALLOWS THE LIVE-IN TEACHING PARENTS TO WORK WITH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS. YOUTH CARE, INC. CURRENTLY RECEIVES REFERRALS FROM THE NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES, SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION, ENCO AND THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES
